MS Curriculum @ Oct. 11 meeting

The Ward 2 Education Council's October meeting is this coming Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 pm.

Register for the meeting here. This is a different link from other months, so you will need to register for this meeting even if you registered for a previous one.

We will be joined by Anthony Hiller from DCPS' Office of Teaching and Learning. Anthony spoke with us this spring about middle school ELA (English) instruction. We're hoping to continue that discussion and also discuss DCPS' math initiatives, where many middle schools are making what used to be the "accelerated" track into the default so that most or all students reach Algebra I in 8th grade. You can read some more about what we know so far about this in this article by W2EC Corresponding Secretary David Alpert .

If you have questions you'd like us to consider asking about at the meeting, please send them to us at w2edcouncil@gmail.com.

Survey on beginning-of-school technology challenges

The Digital Equity in DC Education parent advocacy group is collecting feedback from schools (teachers, tech POCs, LSAT members, etc.) on beginning-of-school-year technology challenges, including issues related to devices, internet connectivity, and Canvas. If your school has experienced tech challenges, please tell us about it by completing this short survey. Your feedback will inform our advocacy efforts and discussions with city officials on school technology needs.

Give your input on middle school

Are you a parent at one of the elementary schools feeding into Cardozo, CHEC, or Francis-Stevens (Cleveland, Francis-Stevens, Garrison, HD Cooke, Marie Reed, Ross, Seaton, Thomson, or Tubman)? If so, please take our survey!  This will help with planning around a new DCPS middle school, expected to be built on the former site of Banneker High School at 800 Euclid St NW. Thank you very much!
